Default Wheel Sizes 2001 E-430 4-matic newbie?

Hello,

Purchased a 2001 E-430 4m in May and discovered that the tires are not recommended for snow, contrary to what I understood at time of sale. I am looking for a X-ref for rim specs, width, bolt pattern, offset and caliper clearances for various Mercedes so I can find some new rims and snow tires. Can I put 16" rims and tires on this model w/out interfering with the traction control? Any help is greatly appreciated, if this ? is covered by another post I apologize in advance.

Thanks for all that contribute to this great source of information,

Aaron Harrah

i got all the info , but too long to post.

yes, you can use 16".

215/55 R16 93H but your rim must be 7.5 X 16 H2 ET41

you can use:

MICHELIN MXV 4A Energy
GOODYEAR Eagle LS
CONTINENTAL Touring Contact CH95

those are all season tires.

Sleepwalker,

Thanks for the quick reply. I understand the 7.5 16 but what do you mean by HT ET41? Is that a Mercedes part code for the spec of the rim? Will the 16" rim significantly affect my speedo? I have the stock 17" rims now. Would a set of any any SLK 320 rims work or are there differences amongst the model years? I do lots of winter driving on curvy mountain roads and was considering blizaks or something comparable. One final question for all, have bought and sold an average )amount on e-bay, but never used tires or rims. Does anyone have any specific questions for sellers that they wished they had asked b4 purchase? Any experiences good/bad welcome.

Thanks,
Aaron

it's a spec.

it will affect the speedo, but you can hardly notice it.
once you use the 17" rim, you will install a tire with lower cross section to it. (65 to 55).

i really got no experience in wheel conversion before.

the ET (offset) will give you an idea if rims from other models can fit.
