Default W124 Motor mount TSB cooling tube...

Hi all,

Has anyone done this to their pre-1989 W124? I am going to need to replace mine, 1988 300E, very soon as I have the rumble woes at idle.

Anyone know the purpose for this TSB? I have read on the Alldata site that i'm subscribed to that the OEM mounts were not to be re-installed due to a design flaw it appears.
"As of February 1989 production, 2 mm higher front engine mounts were phased into production. To allow tension-free installation and correct positioning, the bottom of the motor mount has two grooves (arrow) and the front frame cross member has two corresponding tabs as of August 1989 production."

The "tension-free installation" part escapes me. As far as correct positioning, that reads pretty straight forward to me.

It does seen that every production car of this series incorporates this new design, ahem, thereafter. The diagram illustrates how to measure and drill into the mount brace where the mount should be. I understand this pretty well, but how about the cooling tube part? One also has to cut up the lower cover as well.

So, I'm looking to get some further info on this TSB to know how critical this is to have done. I'd really would just like to replace both mounts and not have to modify, but it doesn't sound like I can.
