W124 1995 E320 Auxiliary Cooling Fans Question
Hi all,
My 1995 E320 was involved in a fairly minor front end collision that has just been repaired. The radiator support was bent back a bit (I collided with an SUV and my bumper went under his, so all the damage was confined to the area above my bumper). So they definitely had to remove the two electric fans, condenser and radiator to reach and straighten the damage. Now I am not sure if those fans are working.
I'm in Chicago and it is below freezing out, so perhaps they are not coming on simply because they are thermostatically controlled and are not needed now. I tried sitting in the car and holding it at a fast (2500 RPM) idle for a few minutes and that did cause the temperature gauge to climb, but not by much. But even then neither of those fans came on, even when the air conditioning compressor was cycling on.
Here's my question:
When the air conditioning compressor cycles on, regardless of ambient or coolant temperature, should at least one if not both of the fans start up, or are they temperature dependent?
Thanks for your time and help!
John
