Default Steering Wheel Noise

My E430 steering wheel feels like it is dragging and makes noise at low speed. A techician already took it apart once and lubed parts of the steering wheel and the boot that goes through the firewall. Anyone have an idea on how to solve this problem? Could it need a new clock spring?

Default RE: Steering Wheel Noise

Hi,
Possibly you need a new "clock spring" however are you sure that the back of the wheel is NOT catching the column switch nacelle?
Alternatively it can be the "self cancelling bush for the indicators that needs a little lube.

Best way to proceed is to jack up both front wheels so that you can steer lock to lock easily and then determine the source of the noise with the vehicle stationary.
The steering wheel "boss" is often not as regularly shaped as you might imagine and as it turns the clearance between the wheel and the nacelle changes.

If your "technician" has already had a look at this I'm surprised he hasn't found the cause.

Of course maybe he was looking for a different noise to that which you had tried to describe...Par for the course!
