Hi, this is my first time on the forum.I have a 1986 300E 124 and sometimes it stalls. We've changes the fuel pump and fuel filter. It still stalls but not as much. Recently it would not go over 25mph even when I tried to accelerate. It was shrugging back and forth while I pressed the gas pedal. I made it home and then smoke/steam came out of the engine. Lots of it. My father was there in 15 min and started the car, drove it and had no problem. The engine temperature was normal. Does anyone have any clue what this could be. It hasn't happen since. It's been two weeks.

 

For starters, I'd check to make sure I had quality spark. Make sure the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap &rotor button are in good shape.
