Default Smoging a 92 190E 2.6L...O2 Sensors???

Hey guys, I’m having a little difficulty getting my 92 190E 2.6L smogged. I have recently been advised to change the plugs, clean the air filter (K&N) and replace the O2 sensor. When I called to get a price on the O2 sensor they asked which one do I need? They said there is 2 sensors, one b4 the catalytic converter and one after. Which one should I replace?

Where are you located?
have you read your codes?
What were the readings from your failed smog test?hc min allowed etc.
with the readings and codes if you have any a solution can be found..

get rid of the k/n first thing and install oe filter.post the items above.
o2 sensor that does the work is pre cat
http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...xygen%20Sensor
use the proper o2 socket avail at most chain auto supply stores.

There is no "check" engine light on.
I dont have the print out in front fo me but I remember the numbers were REALLY high and the car was marked as a "Gross polluter"

When you do have it.Post it
http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/GENINFO/...F-MAY_2003.HTM
So you are having more then a little problem passing.Even if the o2 sensor was missing the car would not be labaled as a gross polluter. So something is going on ,leaky valves, worn rings, excessive smoke?Missing emission system parts ?
You can't drive it.You need to have it repaired and certified at a special station. You might be eligible for $500 assistance regardless of income. If you get a repair waiver it is only good for one inspection cycle and then you must repair it or junk it.

The car is only worth 5-6hundred bucks in current condition,so you need to decide how much it is worth spending on.
Carfax now gets reports of gross polluters in ca now so that further decreases its value if anyone checks.

I had the O2 changed at a reputable Mercedes shop in West Covina over the weekend. They also "leaned" the car out via the Lambda system. Took it for a smog yesterday and they said its not wasting gas anymore, that part passed, but now my NOX level is too high. I took the car back to the shop and they tested the EGR valve by connecting a hand held pump w/ a gauge on it to the EGR valve and pumped it up??? They said the EGR valve was not acting right and they need to change it. After that, do you think it will pass?

Also, I notice that there is a weird sound coming from my dash board, the right (passenger) side where the speaker is. Kind of like a tape rewinding?????

ok nox is egr a egr problem (more than likley) there could be a few items that it could be bad egr did it hold vacuum? also there is a egr tube that likes to plug up with carbon also you can hook a vacuum gauge in line with the egr rev the motor up to about 2900-3000 r.p.ms and see if the vacuum gauge gets to pull a vacuum (test the supply vacuum to the egr valve itsself)

the noise thats usually whats called an asporator motor it blows air to the in car temp sensor so that the ac system can tell if the cabin is changing temp. its no big deal if you disconnected it you wouldnt even notice it is located behing the glove box

They hooked up a vacuum line into the EGR and revved it up a bit and I dont remember but, they were like "look, the motor stumbles a little bit" I guess thats how they knew the EGR was bad. Yeah I called PEp Boys and they told me (2) O2 sensors. WRONG!!!!
