Default Shift problem

I have 1997 mb E430 i just purchased it a few days ago its my first mb and i have a transmission problem.

When the trans shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear the rpm's jump up and then it will engage harshly I would call it shift flair. It dosen't happen all of the time. I have serviced the trans and that didden't help. The car has 117k miles on it.

I also pulled the codes and have 3 trans related codes. Selector level code, gear comparison negative target gear not achived and sporadically gear comparison negative target not achieved.

Please help with any info you might have. Thanks in advance.

you first need to seee if you have metal in the pan..2nd make sure you have the correct amount of fluid and 3rd the problem could be the conductor plate or the electrohydraulic unit on top of the valve body. probably has nothing to do with your shifter.

chassis, thanks for the quick reply.

There was no metal in the pan when I serviced the transmisson. I checked the fluid level with the Mercedes dip stick I bought from the dealer.

Please tell me more about determining which part I might need to replace of the two you metioned and or how to test them.
