Default selector noise - when changing among P R D

E350, purchased April 28, 2012.

Is it normal for some audible clicking+humming sound when changing selector from any to any -- P, R, D? Concerned because this is a brand new car and I did not expect to hear that sound. Need to decide whether to skip work one of these days to take it to Merc dealer service, or not.

Thanks!

My question was not regarding vibrations from the engine, but about a noise when I change the selector from any position (P, R, D, N) to some other position. Normally cars do not make any noticeable noise on doing this. E 350's selector is electronic, so maybe the humming and click noise is the servo moving the mechanics.

But my question remains, is it normal for this noise to be noticeably loud in E350?

To directly answer your question.

NO.

This is a LUXURY vehicle, the shifting should be silent.
