Default ?'s about a 1989 300E

Well we got a 300E since 260E lacks power for enduro racing. Now I was wondering if the intake air temperature sensor on this 300E is in the air flow meter, cause I couldnt find it anywhere else. Another question there is a temp sensor for the dme/ecu to tell the computer how much fuel to delivery, I looked at parts and I found a new three pole sensor, now how comes this car has only two pole sensors, also I would like to know where its locating on the cylinder head, I was thinking of changing this sensor since the car is running really rich to the point it burns your eyes. And one last question, upon stomping the throttle from a stand still it backfires and hesitates for a second then it takes off any suggestions what thats all about? We are trying to get the car to run close to perfect since we have to run against v8's. any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. thanks
