RE: not charging
Hi,
"no charge to the battery and the altenator is workin fine"
I'm confused. This is CONTRADICTORY?
Not sure if the regulator is internal or external on your installation. Alternator output is controlled by a device (regulator) which moderates the field winding current. No field, No output.
Sorry can't be much more help. Sounds like your regulator is dead.
This is a common problem and can often be traced to an incorrect polarity jump start.

RE: not charging
thanks, but the reg is in the boot compartment,on the earth strap.the alternator is charging when the small wire goes live but only lasts a few mins then the blue small wire looses power and the alt stops output.my thinking is the reg is telling the alt to stop charging for some reason.reg is not available for a few days and is a bit pricy but have it ordered and fingers crossed.funny thing is it charges from cold but looses the small feed after a few mins.and has been going on for some time with lots of jump starts so this does sound like a reg prob.thanks again and ile let you know, all knowlage is worth passing on !
