Red face Rear head restraint removal E430

Someone wrapped the seat belt around the rear head restraint in my 2000 E430. Now the seat belt is locked and the head restraint won't go down. If I can remove the head restraint I can unlock the seat belt, I hope. Any suggestions?

its a bitch to remove them, close to impossible its to hard to explain in words. very hard to see the little tabs and hard to access them. you can cut the seatbelt and get a new belt or remove the seat cushion and then unscrew it from the floor then youll be able to remove the belt

the rear seat is easy to remove.

-remove bottom cushion via the two release catches beneath each front corner. set aside

-below vertical seat back, you will find 3 bolts. each corner, plus center.

-lift seat back towards ceiling 1-2" and remove. set aside.

these steps take less than 5 mins once you are familiar with the sequence.

from here, you have plenty of room to view the rear headrest latch mechanism, or unbolt seat strap

i really didn't recall having much difficulty with mine, though my car is 99 E320.
