Question regarding 1999 E-300 A/C System
The air conditioning system in my 1999 E-300 has failed. I had a local shop check it out. They found the refrigerant charge to be low and charged it along with a dye to determine where and the severity of the leak. The dye revealed that the compressor is indeed leaking. They tell me that I cannot just replace the compressor and that I need to replace the receiving unit as well. Is this straight scoop or am I being hosed? Thanks for reading this.

RE: Question regarding 1999 E-300 A/C System
to do the job right you should replace it. its the filter of the system and it is really recommended. But if your tight on budget then youll be fine without it. the reason they tell you to replace it is because they dont want the same issue to reoccur and then youll come back angry at them. ive gone a several times without replacing it on differnt cars and never had a problem. but i do recommend it. its only $150 bucks maybe? but there are pressure and temp switcheson the receiver drier that should be replaced also.

RE: Question regarding 1999 E-300 A/C System
Thanks, I appreciate the reply. The car has been a great performer so I am going for both and yes the switches also. I had it charged with dye and it showed the compressor seals as the problem and there were electrical fault codes showing for the pressure switch so am going to it right. It’s not a cheap repair but I don’t have the proper equipment to do it myself so I will leave it to the experts. CHA-CHING (goes the cash register).
