Default Problem with interior light

The problem is like this..

Depending on how I close the drivers door the automatic interior light works or not.
Suddenly, during driving, the light turns on and then off always in different intervalls. The automatic locking (20km/h) is not working.
My mechanic has checked main locking mechanism and the door switch is new.
His opinion was that it is some problem with the door harness.
The problem never appears when opening the other doors.
Any suggestions...or is additional info from my side needed.
My car is an E-class CDI 2001 station wagon.

Thanks
Johan

I have a similar issue, All my lights work however I can not get my door lights to work. If i hit the door button on my 99 the lights come on then stay on and in order to turn them off I must press the interior light button regardless of weather Im driving or not. If I hit the button again then they dont come on at all (think that is normal because they are shut off)

99 e320 gasoline

Be sure to inspect all of the door jam switches...usually that is the problem..also you might need a door striker adjustment. and the door is not pullling fully closed which in tern means the switch wont be activated to turn off the lights. i would further inspect all door jam switches. usually below the door jam stiker/latch

Thanks, a door striker adjustment was the solution.
The interior light is fully working again. There's only one
thing, the automatic locking when reaching approx. 20km/h
is not working...any ideas.

with car in P or D, dont recall off hand..push and hold the lock /unlock button on the dash and hold for 10-15 seconds in the lock postion..this should work. try D and try this in P one or the other will work..
