Possible thermostat problem

Hello,

I am new to the board and found it when I was looking for information about my problem. I have a 2002 e320 wagon and recently the temperature has started going up over 90C sometimes and then comes back down to 80C. It has always been a steady 80C until now. From other posts, it seems like going to 90C is not a problem and quite normal. My worry is that the behavior of the car has changed recently. Could I have a bad thermostat? Do I have to get the thermostat from the dealer or is there a cheaper alternative? How hard is it to change the thermostat on my car?

Thanks

RE: Possible thermostat problem
Could I have a bad thermostat? Most likely. specially if the rise in temp is when you are going uphill. You can actually take out the thermostat and test it before replacing it with a new one.

Do I have to get the thermostat from the dealer or is there a cheaper alternative? I would get it from the dealer. It is not expensive. You can order on-line, but make sure it is for your model/year MB. good on-line source that I always order parts: www.importec.com

How hard is it to change the thermostat on my car? It is probably one of the easiest tasks.
