Ordered a new E500 - your opinion needed
On the whole, are you guys happy with your purchases? You know, I've always felt as though the purchase of a car like this would be like adding a member to the family. Something that would be a part of trips, events, memories - things like that. (Mind you, I understand that we are not talking about a person or something, but you all know what I mean, I'm sure). I own a Passat right now, and so I know that if wanted all there was to offer in reliability I would drive a Civic or something...but overall, are you happy with your E-class ownership? I also understand that as with most car forums you tend to read more about problems than accolades. It's a big deal here, as I'm not spending $25K...this is a brand new $60K+ automobile I'm talking about.
I appreciate all of your input.

Not too happy with my E-320. Beautiful looking, a blast to drive, but a-lot of aggravation and time to keep up with maufacturers defects (at least in my case). However, my last car a 1994 c-220 was a dream. Quality seems to be lowering in the new models.
I'm very happy with my (211) 220 Diesel A'garde
But (and this might sound strange to some) I think the standard tires on the A'garde ar too wide
It stiffens the car som much (also with the lower Avantgarde chassis) that it is a little too rough in my opinion.
But I guess the 500 will have regulating suspension control?

My wife's 99 E320 runs nice but there have been a number of little annoying things when under warrenty and after. I like the car but for sheer quality, you won't beat the Lexus.
you will feel a big difference from Passat to a E500 in terms of everything. You are switching from a donkey to a horse. You will love driving your new car. Some Mercedes do cause problems but some do not at all. So do not get into the driving seat thinking that it will be giving you a hard time.
Kaan is right about the fact that you do not want to start out with negative expectations. Think Positive ! ... Be Positive !
You are purchasing a Fine Automobile, that once you start driving, you'll love. And if this is your first Benz, once your hooked.... you will always have the desire for one no matter how it treats you. They are like a very classy lady ... they cost a bit more to maintain, but watching the people stare in awe... is a feeling you'll never forget.
Once you've made the purchase, whatever you do...... don't look back with remorse.... If you can look back, you're obviously not going fast enough!
And as far as the comment on "you won't beat the Lexus" .... Don't get me wrong, they do make a dependable car .. but the fact is, it's a Fancy Toyota and that's it. The Mercedes is known "WORLD WIDE" as a Symbol of Class and Superiority, and that's something the Lexus can only dream about.
