Default Oil pressure

Well the oil pressure seems just too high, and comes out of the seals all over. The trouble is, I've checked the top end breathers and the high pressure valves on this 230. Any ideas folks would be greatly appreciated. Someone told me that it is probably the sump strainers, which involves lifting the engine... is this likely .... and easy? ... Many thanks.

It sounds as though the pressure oil relief valve is jammed, this is located on the timing cover of the engine. The oil strainers wouldnt lead to over pressure, they would lead to under oil pressure. to replace these you will have to remove the engine then the sump, but trust me this is not the problem. What oil do you put into the engine? You could possibly cure this by filling it with synthetic oil this is thebest oil money can buy and will lower the oil pressure

many thanks ..... how would I find the crankcase breathers?

Do you think that the piston rings are worn??

I have checked the relief valve (as i thought that this may have been the problem), but it seems to move okay although a bit scored inside.

Help!!

Exactly what is the oil pressure? They do fill the gauge when cold so its nothing to worry about. I recomend that before you lift another spanner that you replace the oil filter and fill the engine with Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil. This will lower the oil pressure by about 1/2 a bar. The crankcase breathers are contianed on the rocker cover itself. So remove it and replace the system but be carefull as the 3 screws holding the filter can shear, if they do like mine did its off to the engine machiners for a very expensive bill? Explain the problem more as i have rebuilt my merc w124 engine and know every last nut and bolt so i should be able to pinpoint the problem but i need to know more symtom

The pressure is up to the top of the guage when cold...... that's okay, but when I remove the filler cap with the engine running I get a face full of splatter! I've checked the breather in the rocker cover and hoses to it (air filter), but they are clear. I don't think that the engine is worn (oil rings specifically) although can't be sure, but it seems to run "right" and doesn't smoke or lack power even though it has probably covered 200k miles.

Will have a go at a flush through and refil with synthetic with new filter if you think it will help.

Thanks for the responses..... any thoughts greatly welcome,

You will get a face of oil when you take off the filler cap as the timing chain is running just beside it so it is flicking oil off the spocket and out of the removed filler cap, so the cure is to not remove it when the engine is running!
