2002 E320 Great car. I have had zero problems with my E320 until today. While driving down the road the ac started making like a scracting sound from the vents. It still works fine it just makes the noise once in a while. I turned on the EC(Economy mode) and it did not do it. What could this be?

post the values 1-8 and the errors.
when you hit the e/c button you shut off the compressor for the a/c that is why the sound stopped,you may be a bit low on r134a.

Yes its like a hissing sound HISSSSSS. Yes just like that. I canhear it i my headIt only does it once in a while.

 

The a/c on the w210 is variable output system if low on r134a it will hiss and vary on the demand.
Run the tests.Toss in a can of r134a from any good auto store and it will help.Sooner or later you will neeed to find and repair the leak.

I had the system looked at today when I had to get my inspection done. They said they have no reson to charge it because it tested great with no leaks.(Free of charge) It still makes the hissing sound almost like something is scratching inside the vent.

 

Oh and the AC blows cold its just it makes the hissing sound.

 

Run the tests and post the values.
Have you changed your cabin filters?
diy on benzworld.org w210 section,very dirty ones will make noise and cut down on fan power

Now the AC is still hissing and it blows colder on the side vents then in the center?[:@]I think im going to get it recharged.

 

I went to ask about it today. The shop said that it is possible that I could have "Froze" something in the AC unit and that is why it hisses. They said to run it warmer for a while. I have never herd of this but Iwilldo it and try.

 

Colder in the sides and such with the hiss is a sure sign of low r134ayou can pick up a can at any good auto store comes with a valve and follow the directions on the can.or have it charged at a shop.
