Default Lower rear seat?

Don't know how to get the rear seat down for extended item hauling, bottom seat cushions go up but back rests do not go down? I can see there is a latch holding them but do not see any release handle etc.

usually the latch is in the trunk under the window at the shelf.

did you check seam where the back and bottom cushions intersect? should be a
release catch there.

(it helps to post year/model of your vehicle so that others can more easily help you)

The lower seat cushions flip forward as you mentioned. The upper seat headrests must be removed next(easier to do before flipping the lower cushions) This is done by holding the release button located at the base of each of the headrests and pulling straight up and out. Then firmly Pull the release lever on the passenger side first(located by the shoulder seat belt) and fold forward, then repeat for the driver's side except this side has the rear screen pull out cover attached to it and is heavier. Kind of a pain but it can be done. When returning the seats to upright make sure they clamp in firmly or the backrest will not latch and keep the seatbelt straps clear of this.
