Default loss of accelerator

When I floorboard my 2000 320E it responds correctly. Then I have total loss of accelerator. I can press the accelerator but have to wait for the car to slowly, very sloly accelerate. It stays this way until I turn off the ignition and restart which then corrects the situation. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jack

probably the pedal value sensor/throttle postion sensor is faulty. sometimes itll throw a check engine light or ESP/ bas light. sometimes it will throw a code for the TPS.cycling the key will usually fix it temporarily. they usually seem to fail when pressing the accelerator hard again. so go easy on it and usually sems to drive ok.
could be other causes of your complaint too but the charachteristics point to a TPS
