Default License plate light broken

One of the license plate light bulbs is out on my 99 E320. I took off the trim strip covering the light lenses but I can't figure out how to get to the bulbs...is it from the inside of the trunk cover or do I have to pry off the plastic lenses on the bulbs?

Can someone give me some ideas?

Also, I have the seemingly common problem of my dashboard display lights being dim on the mileage and trip section and bright on the clock and temp section. I've heard the 99 E320 uses fiber optics for those displays instead of bulbs. Is this true? Can they be replaced if so? I just want to know before I pry open the whole instrument cluster just to find out I can't do anything because they are optical...

thanks.

it ha been so long since i replaced plate bulbs i think if the plastic covers dont pry off you have to remove the deck lid interior cover and there is i think 2 8mm nuts in there that you have to remove then it pulls off.

Thanks. I figured that was the way...didn't think it would take a crowbar to change a light bulb...
