Keeping my cool
Hi evryone. I havnt been active on any Merc forums for a long time as the old girl blew her second Ignition control unit nearly 2 yrs ago and its taken me that long to source a new (old) one. I have a 300TE-24v UK spec non cat with the full sportline spec including the very very low AMG front end springs roll bars etc.
A new ICU from Mercedes costs over 2000 Euros, dollars, pounds, robbing SÃ*&DS
Anyway, having just fitted the new second hand unit, I am keen to keep this one running and understand that the main problam is they tend to fry. Considering the 24v 3 litre isnt the coolest engine on the planet and these old ICU,s boil at 110 degrees, I wondered had anyone fitted up some sort of extra cooling or ventilation or insulation to their 24v and if so, what did you do?
I am thinking about fitting some sort of computer fan and trunking to keep air moving over the thing and maybe have it run on a bimetalic strip even when the ignition is off but the temp is above 100 degrees near the unit.
Any advice very much welcome as I have missed the old girl and want to keep her on the road for as long as possible.

oh...of course 24 valver...i could see that...why does everything have be in multiples of 4? where are the 6 volts of the old days? yet that would be 24 as well, what the automotive world needs is the 9 volt battery to be applied, that would solve my confusion at least.....
