Installing New 300E Ignition lock housing
I have a 1992 300E and am installing an entire new ignition lock and switch assembly (i.e. Tumbler/Lock, black tumbler cover, lock housing, and ignition switch). I have not yet received the parts although am concerned by something I read about the ignition housing from the parts supplier. It stated that the ignition lock housing "locking pin" on the side of the housing shaft may accidentally be permanently triggered during installation prior to sliding it into the steering housing. I wanted to fully assemble everything before installing everything into the car but am now paranoid that I may activate the pin on the housing prior to installing it into the car. I have read forums for the past week and never saw this installation Warning. Once I receive the parts there may be instructions? Can someone tell me the details for installing the lock housing if the locking pin permanent activation is real and what causes/prevents it. BTW, I had to dremel off the old lock housing pin because I tried for a day to remove the broken tumbler without luck (spokes, hangers, you name it). I would like also like to test the switch prior to installation because I believe that I have the wiring correct although want to make 100% certain. Note, the wiring had to be pulled from the harness switch connector since the ignition housing remained locked during disassembly. Once the plastic harness cover and individual wires were removed I had to dremel off the plastic locking tab holding empty harness connector to separate (remove) the empty harness connector from the ignition switch pins. Definitely theft proof!! Thanks in advance!
i am replacing housing & tumbler ***.& as soon as i put the tumbler in something happened & i dont know how to fix it.key wont turn or come out.i can get the tumbler out but still wont let go of key, also can not get houseing back to normal.???????
