Question how to replace bulb on cluster panel

Just wonderig if someone could tell me how to replace bulb on the dashboard on 1999 e 320 .
My light for temp gauge does not work.

I did replace light bulb on the climate control unit in center using special tools to pop up panel from both side at the same time.(same use for radio /cd/tape)
but this one does not have any similar holes nor screws so how to remove cluster and if you do will air bag light come on or not.?
any pictures shows step by step will be great, and what bulb to buy 1.5 wat or 2 wat ,also does it come with yellow housing or not ,and what will be fair price for the bulb.

thanx

The cluster requires a pair of 'pulling hooks'. They are inserted at the left and right corners (between the dash and cluster) near the "+/-" buttons and the "h/m" buttons. The cluster is a friction fit. It is worked out by pulling a little on the left then on the right and repeating.

If you remove the fabric panel under the steering wheel, you can push from the back as well. If it has been in place for a long time it can be hard to move but there are no bolts/screws holding it in place.

Good luck.

Thumbs up bulb replacement on intr.cluster

ok here is what I have found.
all bulbs on the back in my benz are 1.5W 12 volts made by OSRAM.
cost at dealer is 4.99 each at NAPA you can find 2.89 each just different manufacture.

Removing the instrument cluster was such a fun.I was using two pieces of steel wire as you can see on the pictures. It was hard at begining you have to find best spot to pray wire and pull.I did first right side than left. There is two rubber thing on top and two on the buttom which are holding cluster to be in place. Now when it is removed good idea will be to lubricate them just in case for the future to remove it easy.
To remove bulb use flat scredriver and twist 90 deg and bulb will pop out.
I had two bulbs to replace one for the temp.gauge and second one was for high beam.
Anyway if you do not want to play with it you go to dealer and pay close to $100 to remove cluster and insert new bulb.
For me was great learning experiance and now I like driving night time.

ps
if you like realy cool look on the benz than you can play with those light bulbs in diferent colors but BE CAREFULL MUST BE 1.5 WAT 12 VOLT ,if you go with 2Wat bulb than you have chance of overheating your cluster panel.Potential melt down action

in the next reply I will try to put pictures with step by step removal.

ooooo ONE MORE THING VERY IMPORTANT ...SORRY I DID NOT MENTIONED AT BEGINING ..YOU HAVE TO PULL OUT THAN LOWER DOWN YOUR STERING WHEEL OTHERWISE YOU CAN NOT PULL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OUT.

Smile finale

if you try to start car with cluster removed like so it will be possible car can run but if you disconect cluster than car will run too but not sure if it will be adding miles on odometar or not.
It is possible to get warning light for air bag if cables are disconected.
Removing power from both bateries will cancel fault.
Use flat screwdriver to remove light bulb, just twisted 90 deg and it will pop out.

do not use bulbs more than 1.5 wat 12 volt. it can overheat instrument cluster,

this is just for educatinal purposes only and what ever you do you do at your own risk remeber.

enjoy driving best car so far..................
