Hi i have a E240 Avantgarde Auto 01 plate day before yesterday the car started wanting to shoot of when i put it into drive or reverse and would only go uo to 40mph with a struggle .i have been told that the gears are stuck can anyone help thanks June

 

June, don;t quite understand you description. What do you mean "shoot". Is the engine idling higher than normal, like above 600 rpm or so? So when you put in gear, you have to press the brake really hard to keep it from driving forward?

To get to 40, do you have to press the gas or it goes to that speed all by itself?

Does it shift gears on the way up to 40? You could see this by watching the tachometer. It should raise gradually, then drop back as it shifts, and again and again.

If you have reverse and drive, I am guessing you have some other problem.
