My 1997 E320 engine is starting to shake or shudder significantly at low speeds and the car is
running incredibly rough, since 3-4 days. The car has had a CEL "camshaft position sensor" error code
for over a month now,without any problem.

Funny thing is that my other car, (british car, 2000) also started shuddering at slow
speeds and at idle every 10 seconds or so, At idlethe other carsunds like:

purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGASPpurrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGASPpurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrr

Both cars started seeing the problem at the same time. They were filled at the same gas station.
The weather turned from 90s to 50s at the same time. The E320 is definitely worse engine
shake and rough running.

Any thoughts? Thanks

 

I noticed that a small tube that plugs into the Air Shutoff Valve is almost cracked. Could this be the problem?
I am attaching pics.

I am also replacing the spark plugs.

I had a similar problem, turned out to be one of the ingnition transformers. The car shook and vibrated at low speeds.

 

Hi, I'm wondering if you ever fixed the rough idle problem and if so what was the cause? Mine is rough at a standstill but smooth driving.
