Default Heated Seats

I have a 2002 E320. Just recently part of the driver side heated seats stopped working. What I mean is part of the seat works about in the middle. The sides of the seat do not work. Also the back part of the seat does not work. The dealer says both have to be replaced at a cost exceeding $1,000USD. Any suggestions on repairing the heated seats. Thanks for suggestions.

the heated elements are woven into the seat fabric. this design places the heating
element just the otherside of the leather (or whatever) material. you can remove
and resew but most folks don't because it's extremely labor intensive. instead,
most folks will just buy aftermarket element and place it as the first layer....which
means it is at the bottom of all the layers and the heat will need to travel through
all that material to heat you cheeks. relatively inexpensive....my guess is couple
hundred dollars US (am at work and dont have notes).

the pain is using extreme forearm muscles, pliers the peel off the seat frame. figure
that it'll take couple of hours for one seat, easy. go slow and careful. this isn't a race.
