Default Glow plugs replacement. Do it yourself???

96' E300D. How difficult is it to replace glow prugs myself? Do I need any special tools for that? Do I have buy them from a dealer or from Rusty for example. Also does anybody know how much does the dealer charges for glow plugs replacement?

Thanks.

Default Glow plugs replacement. Do it yourself???

I recently replaced 6 glow plugs on my 1995 E 300D with the 606910 engine. It was a do-it-yourself job, however, it took quite a bit of time. If the '96 is similar to the '95, then you need to remove the crossover pipe, intake manifold and the plastic injector cover. After that it is like replacing spark plugs. I had trouble removing one plug because of interference with a nearby fuel line. I had to grind down a deep socket so that I could fit-in a breaker bar - that was the only "special tool" I needed. I also replaced the rubberfittings on the intake manifold used for crankcase ventilation since they had become brittle with age. Hope some of this helps.
