I'm looking at getting a E class or BMW 540i. I perfer the look of the of the merc over the bmw.

I test drove a e430 with 97k; they were asking 15k. Seems about right being 1998. I would love a newer one but being only 20 years old and such. I have a volvo now and looking to upgrade. Go figure.

What should I look for on the car for potential problems that might arise. Should I just take it to mercedes shop to have it checked out. Also how horrible is e320 for driving. Will it get out of its own way well enough?

 

The e320 has a great little engine with plenty of pep. It will surprise you. And it should drive like a dream! Well then again, it all depends upon what you expect from it. If you are looking for a sporty firm ride then it may be the wrong car for you, check out the CLK. The E320 drives very smooth (as do most Mercs) the CLK has a little different feel to it. The CLK ride is a bit more sporty yet still smooth.

Unless you must have 4-doors, then I'd check out the CLK, it's an awesome machine and you should be able to get one around the price you are looking to spend.

It doesn't cost anything to test drive them, do that then make your decision based upon what you've experienced.
