Yeah thanks Leon, my engine is 2.6 v6 year2000 it is due a service B very soon, so I will point it out to them. I have also another problem!! that has arisen, when turning
the steering wheel I am getting a rubber grinding sound, apparantley it is common with some of the E240 of that year....anyone else with the same problem?

 

I got that "rubber grinding noise" on my 740iL too, most noticeable on parking maneuver. According to the mechanic the rubber bushings are getting old and dry out (hence the noise). His advice is to leave it alone until you get steering problems such shaking, uneven worn tires then get them changed.. unless you have th $$$ just to get rid of the noise.
