Hi, I have just purchased a 91 190e with 66,000 miles on it. I love it! My question is this. Is it characteristic for this machine to run at 3500 rpm at 70 mph? It seems like it should shift down. Thanks

I'm no Benz expert, having only owned my '92 300E a little over a year, but mine too runs RPM's about that high at 70+. I think it is just the way it is - it (mine) is definitely in 4th gear of the automatic 4-spd when cruising at that speed. If one is used to the "overdrive" gear in an American car, I think this is why 3500 R's seems high. I don't know what the gearing ratios are. If you have access to that information, it should tell you what you want to know.
