Default Fault Code reader

Can anyone tell me if it is worth buying a fault code reader and the adaptor lead for my H reg(1991) Mercedes 300e. I am still struggling with the Abs light on and it's beginning to really annoy.Ta!

Tested sensors and all readings are as they should be.I replaced all the relays including the OVP.Light went off and was fine that day. Then next day the light was back on and no ABS.Slowly losing patience with the car. Called a couple of mechanics who say as it is 1991 it needs a specialist fault code reader? Help!

After much stress lol I finally corrected the problem.I bad connection on the plug that connects to the OVP relay was all it was.A quick solder and all was well again.Just shows that sometimes the obvious can be a bugger to find!
