Default Erratic loss of power

Hello,

I have a 1996 W210 E230.

The problem with the car is that it sometimes has a sudden loss of power. No acceleration whatsoever. Revs just around 2000rpm really slow even if I step on the gas. It has no Check engine light. After a few minutes and revs, it goes back to normal. This has been happening for the last year but I have ignored it and I just do not use this car too much.

These are the parts I have replaced recently to fix the problem, but no luck still
1) MAF sensor (Just a few days ago)
2) Fuel Filter (2 weeks ago)
3) Spark Plugs - I noticed the last Spark plug just lasted 2 months since it was full of black soot.
4) Fairly new Ignition coils. - Got this about a year ago.
5) Air Filter (2 weeks ago)

The car has no smoke at all. Runs fine till this erratic loss of power happens.

Thank you and I hope someone can enlighten me.

There may be codes stored that have not put the MIL on get it checked in obd for pending and codes stored in the last drive cycle.
Can you see live data using a diagnostic tool? Can you back probe the throttlebody and pedal return values?
From the sketchy information you have gived it sounds like it is running too rich, I would start be making sure that the throttle body is clean an free (do not fit another body it will need a basic reset using a diagnostic tool)

regards

Pete

Thanks klpete!!

Yes, it is running rich. Just installed new plugs, and after 2 days of use, it is so black already as if it has been there for a year.

Will just go to a shop with the obd. Thanks. I am on a dead end
