Default erratic shifting 94 C280

We just purchased this 94 C280 with 50,000 miles and it runs and looks good. The problem is when you first drive the car in the morning it shifts from 1-2 nice and quick but 2-3 it wants to go 3 or 4 blocks and then it will shift. Driving from then on it shifts perfect. What I have tried so far is to warm the car for 5 minutes before driving and that will cure the problem. I also tried getting on it in 2 running the r's up, this made it shift to 3 and then in a split second 4 with no slip. The luid is clean and up to it's proper level. Anyone out there have this issue or a possible diagnosis. Thanks

our 99 requires high rpm to shift between 1-2 when cold and the MB service advisor (who I do not have much faith in) says that this is normal. The only thing that my MB manual says to do is replace one of the xmissions internal springs (K1).

My 99 C280 shifts the same way very quick out of 1 and 2 until the engine warms up. This for pollution considerations I am told.

well theres other factors to think of ..like cable adjustment and modulator adjustment ,adjust it to shift to your liking...the tighter the cable the longer the shifts will be ..and for mod valve ,,turn in for firmer shifts ,out for softer shifts...trans cable starting point adjustment is no slack in cable....

Well guys I sure do appreciate all of your input in regards to our erratic shifting C280. Today I talked to a service tech in this area explaining my delayed 2-3 shift when cold. He thought it was a normal condition of the car to help get the catalytic converter warmed up. What do you think about this little twist to the tail? Again thanks for all the imput.

this is what i would try first....since it is the cheapest.

most cars now have electronic adaptive transmissions. that means the computer memorizes your driving pattern. for example, if you tend to accelerate faster, then it will keep in one gear longer etc.

i would disconnect the bettery so that the stupid computer will forget the previous driver's driving attitude. you will train the computer from scratch. wouldn't u like this idea? i did this to my car.

just make sure you have the radio code.

forgive me if your tranny is not adaptive kind of thing.
