Default Erasing the error codes on the A/C switch?

I just found out that I can erase those diagnostic codes on the A/C switch. These data are identical to what an OBDII scanner can do.

I used to be charged around $55 just to re-set and see these data and I never knew before that I can do it myself by just researching on this board.

Point of clarification: I really haven't discovered How I erased the old codes. Is it:
1) press the "up" and "down" buttons simulteneously? all 4 buttons? or just the 2 on the left or right?
2) Or press the "auto" buttons left and right simultaneously?

I did both and somehow, it erased the codes. But I did not see the "--" sign.

Also, what does "FF" mean on the display?

Thanks.
