Default Engine Oil on E class.

MB service manual recommends engine oil to some
certain grades. So is it necessary to use synthetic?

Last time I asked a service station and he only
uses regular oil.

if you run it hard, live in an extreme climate (hot or cold) or run your oil to the FSS recommendationsyou really need it.I usesynthetics for the extra protection.

Use a good synthetic, you won't regret it.

The milage and age of your car could limit you to what kind of oil you should use as well. For instance, on my 87 260e with over 200,000 on it, I like to use Castrol 20-50. It is a heavy oil, and as the engine becomes looser, it does a better job. The synthetics are so slippery that they tend to leak, wheras the thicker, standard oil doesn't. I'm sure every case is different, and it depends upon you driving style. As long as you change it often, (I change mine every 3,000 miles), you should be fine.
