Default Engine noise 98 E320

Hi ! I have e weird feeling about the noise of the engine of my 98 E320....
when i press the accelerator the engine (or something else) makes this rough noise and it seems like I have an engine from a 65 VW bug and its trying very hard to pull the car so it makes this noise, but the engine is actually pulling pretty good.....otherwise the car is running OK (knocking 3 times on the wood PLEASE HELP ME ANYONE..... I'm going nuts about this noise !!!!

It's hard to tell without hearing it. Maybe hard even if we could hear it.

Is it pinging? Does it sound like a muffled can of rattling marbles?

It's sounds more like a muffled can, but at the same time it also sounds like there's a hole in a muffler, but there isn't one, I've checked !!! You would hear same kind of noise on the 4 cylinder engine if you would press the gas all the way down on the 1st gear.......
Thanx.

The best way I can describe pinging is a muffled can of rattling marbles. I guess I wrote that last post kinda crummy. I didn't mean to imply two different sounds.

If it's pinging, using premium grade gas will fix it. If you already use premium, try a different station.

Your car has an auto trans, right?

Yeah, it's automatic transmission ! I gave you example with a 5 speed because I drove manual before and it sounded like it (sounds like the engine is on 5000 rpm when it's only on 2500 rpm)! I tried different gas stations and I get only the high premium fuel, it still does it..... Do you think anything could be wrong with the engine or transmission? I have 81K miles on it...... But sometimes (especially when the engine is cold) the car kind of shakes when the transmission changes from 1st to 2nd gear (it doesn't really switch the gears smooth)....
My friend suggested to clean the injectors ($50) but I don't know if it'll work.....

The engine won't "pull pretty good" with injectors that are so dirty that they make loud rattling noises. Still, it wouldn't hurt to get them cleaned after all these years. I'm not saying that will fix your problem, though.

Does you car have a dipstick for the trans? If so, have you check the level and the smell of the fluid?

It doesn't have the dipstick, I had to remove the lid, but I've checked the fluid....the level seems OK and the color of the fluid is still has some red in it (I'm about to change it ) but I didn't smell it !!! You think that it could be the trans ???? This noise driving me nuts, I feel like I'm driving a 70 year old tracktor not 98 Benz
Thank you for your time !!!

Check for metal filings in the trans fluid when you change it. I don't know much about tranny problems. Someone else needs to help you troubleshoot it.

Also, check the engine oil dipstick. Does it have any coolant on it?

Check the coolant aux tank. Is there any oil floating on top of the coolant?

Any puddles under the car? If so, what is the fluid?

I've checked for coolant and oil...... everything looks OK...... I've changed my oil last friday so maybe it's too early to see anything on a dipstick.... Well, I didn't find any "poodles" (that a funny term underneath ..... so I'm lost !!!!
