Hi Folks,
I've got a 1995 E220 Auto with 120k miles on the clock. Problem is lately when you take up a gear from P to say R or D the engine does one of two things; it either hesitates then revs up and settles or it just cuts out! Also noticed when I disconect the MAF sensor it gets better and if you press the accelerator to move off it seems to "wait" for micro second. Any ideas, your thoughts are much welcomed, thanks

Hi i have a similar problem - from other post -
Hi i have had this car lying round for weeks now & i have dropped onto it again with a little spare time i have .
i have all but given up !!
It has a problem when cold starting it will try once to fire run for a couple of seconds normally then wont even consider it again untill i leave it for a few hours .If i catch it with enthusiatic working of the throttle it will pick up & run .but if i get it to this stage when i take foot off throttle to drop it into drive it cuts out . ie wont tick over .if i keep it on a high tickover for a couple of minutes ,before trying to put it in gear ,it will behave fine there after .no missfires ,plenty of power etc .
Another thing i noticed this morning was. When it is in awkward mode .i hear no prime up from the fuel pump ,when swithching ignition between off & run .
When it gets over its tantrums ,i hear pump prime evey time i switch from off to run (engine stopped) .
I would be really gratefull for any help on this,i am at the end of my tether.
thanks for looking Steve .
Sounds interesting .where/what is the maf sensor .
cheers Steve

the maf sensor is a sensor in the air in take after the filter and before the throttle body; its got a wire harness going to it and measures the amount of air entering the engine: @ £250 a part not cheap.
Your probs sound slightly different to mine; my car will fire up no probs but idles rough and cuts out when engaging gear. All this happened after the oil change!
I would check the Idle air control/speed valve but I don't think this has one?
