I just got a message of "check engine electronics" and it appears that the engine is misfiring on my '97 e420 sport. My wife was driving it at the time. I recently changed the oil tubes due to a blown plug on one of them and thought I may have had a coil plug come loose, but after inspection they were all tight. Any ideas, do I need to get a scanner or are there some basic things to check first.
Thanks,

A dump of codeswith an OBDII compliant scanner is the way to go. If you don't want to invest in one, and there are Auto Zone stores in your locale, they reportedly will pull the codes for you free of charge.
My guess... most likely a bad coil pack. It happened to mine as well. Did you change the spark plugs when you were working on the car? If not, how many miles on them?
As ohlord will tell you, a perfectly good OBDII scanner can be had at Harbor freight for around $40.

Good luck.
