Question E350 CDi Fuel Consumption

Hi All. I'm new to this so bear with me if this question is already covered elsewhere.

I have a new E350 CDI avantguard since July 2009. Despite my best efforts I cannot get anywhere near the fuel consumption figures claimed. The trip computer is also about 4mpg optimistic.

I previously owned an E300TD and the consumption figures were similar. A vehicle health check has not revealed any problems. Has anyone else experienced this or better results.

I get 40mpg at 70mph and combined about 32mpg.

Otherwise the car is great

Post Thanks All

Thanks for all the comments. Maybe I should not be complaining - it is a great car. But the documentation suggests 50mpg on highways and 40mpg combined. I'm generally 10mpg lower than expected which concerns me and I wondered about others experiences on that model.

The figures (measured by refilling the fuel tank) are averaged over approx 6oo miles and are consistent from one refill to the next. I do about 50% highways and 50% town roads - but very little stop-start. I am generally a very economical driver and usually exceed manufacturers figures by about 10% but not this time.

As economy is a big feature of the Bluefficiency models I was expecting to achieve rather better consumption than I got from my last E300TD - however that was a great motor I will readily admit. But if it was so good - why not stick with it? It was unbreakable and a hoot to drive fast or economically.

Any more thoughts guys (and gals)

Chris

Cool By the way

Oh! and by the way, I'm in the UK and talking about English gallons (ie 4.55litres) not US gallons. I forgot you guys get short changed at the pumps
:-)
