Are E320Cdi supposed to be noisy?
Guys
I've just got my 2005 E320Cdi for a week. What I have noticed is that the engine is very very noisy when it is cold. Is this what I'm supposed to expect? This is my first diesel car and I don't know if it's supposed to sound like this.
When the engine is warm, it's very smooth and nsounds nice. I thought only the 220Cdi is noisy but it looks like the 320Cdi is noisy too?
Also, when the weather is cold, it takes several seconds to get the engine started. Is this normal for a diesel engine?
I see most of you guys are based in the US. Do you have diesel mercedes over there?
I am based in the UK.
Many thanks

Given that it is a diesel it will be louder than a gasoline engine but more quiet than older diesel engines. So the noise if probably normal. As far as the long starting times, it should not be doing that. The CDI's should fire up first attempt due to a new type of glow plug. You may have a problem with the glow plugs if thats the case. Hope this helps.
