E320 cracking?
Hey I just bought an 01 E230 and everythings great, except above the rear drivers side door the body has some... cracks? in it. They don't look super bad but I was just wondering if this was common with these vehicles and how much you think it would run me to take it to a body shop?
Thanks

Thanks
Well I have the carfax and it does not show an accident, but I guess it might have just not been reported to insurance? I think I'm just gonna take it to a few body shops and get some quotes. It's not a huge affected area so hopefully they won't want blood. But thanks for the thoughts

If you use a very small magnet you can perhaps notice the differese in "magnetism" on a carbody area with or without filler. In some cases a "inadequate" repair is "busted" by the magnet test :-) (And in some cases the panels are aluminium.)

Found out what it is
Alright you guys, I found out what the cracking is. I went to a body shop and the guy told me that he has seen it many times before, it was'nt from an accident or anything. He said that a company called G3 I think made some kind of product that alot of cars used to bond the paint to the metal body of the car, and it was notorious for being mixed badly. Apparently if it was mixed badly the pH levels of the coating were too high and causes rust underneath the paint, this in turn causes the paint to crack from the inside. The guy said that he could take off the quarter panel clean it up and repaint for like 300-500 dollars depending on how bad the rust is. Unfortunalty it is starting on the roof as well and he said to do the roof as well it would be like 1700. I just wanted to let you guys know that if the paint starts to crack weird like mine did, it would probably be in the best interest to have it checked out and solve the problem as soon as possible because since it's rust it will only get worse if ignored.
Thanks,
Mitchell
