Look in the trunk under the floor/carpet liner.

I had the same problem when my dads battery died, I searched and searched and even though it said "under the seat" you still can't find it, It is under the seat though, Takes some time to find it, Its a big expensive bugger as well. Peter

I have the 1997 E420 and I can not find it under the seat either.

Does any one have instructions on how to replace the battery?

Can I replace it with other battery (NON-MB) with similar physical and electrical characteristics?

Thanks in advance,

Wil

Sears has a Diehard battery with a vent tube on it just for applications inside the passanger compartment with the same ratings as OEM. Interstate Battery and AC Delco do too.

Just use any high amerage deep cycle battery. It's the same principle and there won't be any need for "vent tubes."
