I recently purchased an E320 (2003) and have a problem with my wipers. They only work when I use the washer fluid button. They will not turn on in any other position. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, what was the solution? I had a mechanic tell me its a very expensive SAM control module that needs to be replaced.

 

Did you check the fuse?Where did you buy the car from?Do you have the rain sensiing option?
Dealer diagnostic machine or an indie shop with the star machine may be will be able to locate the fault.Might be the stalk itself is bad.

You are obviously getting power to the wiper motor but that does not mean that the multi-function "tree" wiper/turn signal/hi-lo switch could be bad in the other settings. This car has the rain sensor. Find a qualified mechanic that will do the diagnostics to isolate the issue. Good luck.
