Default E230 engine/gearbox problem

Hi can someone please help?? I have an E230 auto 1995 model with round headlights. After driving vehicle for awhile after setting off from a stop it blows out clouds of whiteish smoke. It's not using any water,at max and clean, not using any more fuel than usual but is using gearbox oil with no visual signs of leaks and oil level is going up..Any help would be much appreciated. Many Thanks

You probably have a blown headgasket. I know you say you are not using water, but you are gaining fluid in the crankcase from somewhere. Transmission fluid has no way to get in the engine. Plus white smoke is most likely water. Does your oil look milky?

I'm not sure on your model but I would check if the gearbox and engine oil are not sharing same radiator for cooling engine oil and automatic transmission fluid. There could be internal leak in your radiator. On my 80 280SE the engine oil has separate radiator and engine coolant and transmission are sharing same radiator.

Hi guys thanks for the replies.Head gasket already been changed and water is still clear,no the oil and gearbox dont share same coolant radiator.Have checked vehicle over again today and found a vacuum pipe that comes off cylinder head close to injectors and feeds down to gearbox is drawing up the gearbox oil into the engine but i dont know what the unit it is connected to on the gearbox does, small cylindrical shaped unit with a white cap .Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Many Thanks.

Default Gearbox

Had a similar problem a long time ago. Changed the gearbox filter, changed the oil and the problem was solved. You may want to try to do the same, it is not a costly affair.

I believe you talking about modulator vacuum valve, not too expensive, about $40 to replace.

shift module if its bad it leaks trans fluid wich the vacum sucks up to intake manifold and it gets burned with the fuel and blown out the exhaust looking white
