Was in heavy traffic when all of a sudden the car was not in gear even though I was in drive, pulled off the side and cut the car off and in about 5 minutes, cranked it again and it was fine for about 3-4 miles. Then it started gearing down again all the way out of gear. Pulled over, turned it off, then on again and repeated this process several times. What could be causing this problem?

 

Hello and welcome to the forum! What year is this in reference to? If it's a transmission issue, there should be some codes that pop up.
