E 320 stationwagon cold start problem
99 E320 117K.
well kept.
Hubby replaced the crank sensor 10 mo ago , hot start problems.
This am I went out to start and engine will crank , no errors on dash.
and this evening the same thing.
we put on a BIG space heater in the garage and let it heat up. and zoom
it started. Smelled a little funny raw gas? ..ran it up to the store and left it idle for just a few min.
back home ran very rough.. engine light comes on.
no over heating oil good....got home and it then idles rough.
reved it a few times nada.
shut it down for a few min.
started up .....great ................no rough idle............... but engine light on now!
Hubby says the O2 sensor prob from the no start gas thingy.
maybe disconect the batt for a few min to get rid of engine light.
This has been going on for a while and the sensor on the crank could be bad again?
iT was an aftermarket but really did not give any prob untill now.
Funny the heated garage thing worked after just 30 min
Any help on this ?
thanks sooo much guyz!
BTW Hubby cant type to well.

O2 sensor shouldn't impact cold start.
Since CEL Check Engine has been on codes will have been set.
Need to read these and determine what the ECU says was wrong.
YEP battery off may clear but you need to know why code was set.
Aftermarket CPS Crank ASensor is a Wild Card but failure is usually hot restart or no start.
Have you checked battery voltage with ignition off, whilst cranking and whilst running 2000 rpm?
Low voltage during crank (impacted by ambient temperature) could be a factor but a bit of a long shot. Check it out.
How old is the battery? 3+ years and you are on borrowed time.
Good luck.

Thanks dear,
The cold start crank sounds just like it always does.
yes the batt is over 3 years but garage kept.
will have hubby ck out the voltage.
but lights dont dim at idle or get bright when rev up.
The aftermarket crank sensor. hmmm
well its a no start when it cranks .
but we warmed it up last night and started right up!
he feels the the O2 sensor was a false read for the no start excess gas that we smelled'
the oil and temp are good and no valve noise or knocking.
your so nice to help out.
again hubby is a great mech and hare pressed to take it to the local crooks and the benz dealer.
sorry to say that but its true.
