Display Defective.'97 E320 PROBLEM SOLVED!
Hey guys,
Here it what I did:
1.Disconnected the negative from the battery(left it for 24 hours to clear the codes)
2.Replaced the washer fluid level sensor
3.Topped off the washer fluid
4.Reconnected the battery ( negative last)
5. Started the engine
The codes cleared and the "Display Defective message (with radiator icon beteween the words) disappeared.
Good Luck ! God Bless!

RE: Display Defective.'97 E320 PROBLEM SOLVED!
Hi, new to the site, but have the exact same issue with my '97 E300D. You write that you replaced the washer fluid sensor....did you mean coolant level sensor? Or did replacing the washer sensor actually get rid of the coolant icon? It would figure that MB would use the radiator symbol to ID a washer problem.

RE: Display Defective.'97 E320 PROBLEM SOLVED!
Let me tell you one thing....I faced a similarsituation recently. There was no need to change the
level sensor.
If the ambient temperature change is too much during 24 hours ( High60F and Low 32F) and
the water/glycol ratio is not right then the radiator expansion tank level sensor will get mad and
freeze to falsely indicate 'Radiator tank low level' alarm.
So, ensure that the mixture of water and glycol has proper ratio to keep things above freezing
at all times and there is proper level of fluid in the radiator expansion tank.
I am sure that there is no need to change the level sensor.
