Dash Lights
I have a light out on my dash and need to change one of the bulbs on my '98 E320. Does anyone have an exploded view of how to take the speedometer/tach cluster out? Orcan you get to the bulbs by going up from underneath the dash? Thanks in advance!

RE: Dash Lights
You need a pair of MB instrument cluster removal tool. You can buy it on-line or on e-bay. Be careful not to damage the dash. There are different types of bulbs depending on which one is out. You can buy the bulbs from MB dealer or on-line.

Yep, found that on eBay! I guess the main question was, how do you use the tool to pull the dash cluster out? Does it unlock a clip or does it actually pull the cluster out? That's why I wanted to see an exploded view of the dash cluster. Thanks again for responding back!

Here you go buddy! Did my own after seeing this DIY instruction! Cost me $16 for the tools and bulbs vs. hundreds for the dealer to do it! Although this is for an older vehicle, the principle remains the same!

I'll definitely change ALL bulbs!!!! Interesting that the center is dark but the outside of the cluster is on. IfI tap on the top of the dash the center bulb comes back on!! I'm gettting tired ofdoing that.
On a '98, is the tach cable driven or is it electronic?

I changed my E320 2000 bulbs this way.. I took a pair of needle nose pliers and a cloth and used them to pull out each side of the cluster in it's lower corner. Once it is out a little bit you can grab it and pull it out far enough to get behind it and take out the bulbs. I used a 1/4" torque bar and a 1/4" socket toGently remove the bulbs. You will have to lower your steering wheel . The cloth is to protect the edge of the cluster between the jaws of the pliers . You simply gently push the cluster back in . Worked great and I saved $135.00 CDN which as of this morning was $141.00 USD
