I need to purchase one but I don't know which kind to get. Any suggestions?

Hi,
There are many different types and at very different costs.
Important thing is what you need the scanner to do.

Start with:
Protocol (eg OBDII)
Connection (plug) type.
Handheld / PC / self contained.
Read out type, e/g/ Live data on software type gauges.
Budget.
You don't only want to read codes but also reset the ECU and in particular if you want to do diagnostic work live data feeds to the ECU. e.g. Water, ambient temp, O2 sensor output etc etc.

I personally use software on a Palm handheld. Extremely good, robust, reliable and CONVENIENT. Since I understand we are not supposed to advertise on this site if you really want to know the make you had better PM me. (about 200USD)

Default 1995 E320 OBD I code reader

I am looking for a code reader/scanner for my 1995 e320 that has an OBD I computer.The Harbor Frieght OBD scanner will only work for OBD II.

if there is an autozone in your area, they let you borrow a scanner
