charcoal filter
i have an 2001 e320 and was wondering how to change my charcoal filter, and more than that, is there anyway of scenting the filter so that when it blows through it acts as an air freshner as well as a purifier

RE: charcoal filter
I changed paper and charcoal filters on two W210 cars last weekend...I am getting pretty good at it. Guess I should have taken some pictures. Once you know where you're going, it's not tough. The set of white paper filters is accessed behind the glove box (removed with 6 screws and a good yank). The charcoal filters are located above the footwell area on the front passenger side. They hide behind two trap doors.
The set of paper filters is around $19. The VEMO charcoal filters are $90. Charcoal filters are supposed to be swapped out every 4 years. In the past 6 weeks I've changed them in 1998, 1999 and a 2002 cars. All of them were original from the factory. None were horribly dirty. OTOH, the white paper filters in two of these cars were absolutely frightful. [&:]
BTW, the white paper filters I received were by BOSCH...directions were contained within the box.
